Last Night on the Mass Pike

After my last post, my week and mood picked up drastically; mostly due to the fact that Tuesday was my last day in the office for the week :) . Thanks for all the nice comments and pick me ups on that post though, it always helps. Anyway, Wednesday was sort of like a “senior skip day” and I headed out to the last regular season Nationals game with a bunch of co-workers, and they just so happened to be playing the Phillies!

It was a delightfully ridiculous time, as you can probably see, and when I dragged myself in my front door at 9:30 pm (1 pm game) all I wanted was gallons upon gallons of water. Thankfully I was working from home on Thursday and could spend my morning in my pajamas recovering from the weekday debauchery, while also packing for my weekend trip to Boston! I headed out to Kacy’s apartment for a sleepover with her and Jess, so we could all catch our 10:30 am flight on Friday together.

here they are in the airport… seconds before Kacy realized she had abandoned her suitcase at a food kiosk. If you’re wondering how long it takes security to get the drug dogs out, it’s about 10 minutes

The flight from DC to Boston is about an hour and fifteen minutes, which gave the three of us just enough time to complete two crossword puzzles before landing and reuniting with the other two members of our group. Amy’s flight got in about 10 minutes before ours, and Steph scooped us all up and whisked us away to lunch.

Steph took us to Top of the Hub, which had gorgeous views of the city… and amazing food too

Amy and i… reunited and it feels soooo gooood

This is me, regretting my decision to not order the soup, embarrassing myself by scooping up all the last bits of Kacy’s soup with a piece of bread

After lunch, and a quick pit stop at Sephora, the five of us headed back to Steph’s house to regroup, freshen up, and pick up some necessities (booze and frozen pizza) before again  heading back into Boston for the evening. We ended up at Remy’s in the Seaport district which was full of men, playing lots of sports, and boasting endless nachos. A win on all counts.

Kacy and Jess went with the biker chic look for the evening

Amy and I were bringing back the 80s… team leggings as pants for the win

Because of traveling, and walking, and all of the nachos, this happened before too long. It’s fine though because no one wants to be hungover with a full day of touristing ahead of them.

Because of the aforementioned early end to Friday night, we were all up bright and early Saturday morning ready to tackle the day… and some food. Steph took us to Zaftigs for brunch and it was the perfect fuel for a day of sightseeing.

LEAVES! Waiting for our names to be called… by the end of the wait we were 5 inches from the door.

After stuffing our faces, we began our tour. Steph took us from Government Center/Quincy Market, through Boston Common, and the Public Garden, all the way down Newbury Street.

Pausing for a photo in the Public Garden, where we encountered no less than 10 bridal parties taking photos. Wedding season… sigh.

so pretty, we were all wondering where Matt Damon or Ben Affleck were to whisk us away like we were in some romantic comedy

This is getting quite long winded, so I’ll wrap it up as quickly as possible. After a pit stop for some beers, we again went back to Steph’s to change and freshen up before heading out to Watch City Brewing Company for beers and dinner. That’s where our night ended and I’m pretty sure they’re going to ask Steph to never bring us back there.

Pre-gaming for dinner… totes natural. I am unsure if this outfit makes me look like Robin (aka Batman’s sidekick) but I like it.

we are awkwardly delightful, sing too loud in public, monopolize the jukebox, and I love it.

I got home around 3:30 yesterday, and could barely keep my eyes open until the end of the Yankees game. It was a fun and amazing weekend, and I miss all your faces already. With no vacation days to look forward to until Thanksgiving, and no trips on the horizon, this week is a major let down compared to last. Oh well, guess it’s time to start planning something else?

Happy Mondayyyy.

oops

On Saturday I accidentally bought $45 tinted moisturizer.  Today, unfortunately for my wallet, I fell head over heels in love with it.  You see, apparently I was function with only half a brain yesterday, and laid out in my backyard for a good 4 hours.  With my sunglasses on.  The whole time.  By the end of the day, I looked like this:

ridiculous

Have you ever seen such a prominent sunglass tan before?  So yeah, I couldn’t show up at work today looking like a raccoon, so I broke out the new moisturizer this morning and gave it a whirl.

no more raccoon eyes!

I am also loving the dewy look that comes along with this stuff.  As someone who never really wears makeup to work and hates, hates using foundation, I really love how light this is and how much it evens out my skin tone.  It’s the Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, and I got the Golden Radiance shade.  Full disclosure, I picked it up because my favorite swimsuit model and fiance of the sexy John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, said she uses it, and her skin always looks fabulous.  Anyway, I love it, and I guarantee I go through it way too quickly.

So besides the ridiculous sunburn on my face, I had a great weekend up in PA.  Friday night was dinner with my mom, and then Saturday I drove into the city bright and early to get my hair done.  I added some blonde highlights to it, and I’ll post a picture as soon as I have a good one.  I love it though, and I feel so summery, especially with my newly acquired tan.  My sister was flying in from San Diego on a flight that landed at 7:30, so after my hair was done I spent some time visiting my favorite places in Philly.

beer and pizza at Pietro’s

I also did some shopping (see purchase of tinted moisturizer) and officially had to size up in J. Crew for like the first time ever.  It is distressing me much more than it really should be, also because now I know the two pairs of shorts I bought last year definitely won’t fit right now.  I really have no idea why I keep getting so fat, I work out like a crazy person, and really do watch what I eat.  I don’t get it, and I’m on the verge of having a breakdown.  This is week 3 of following the plan the gym trainer made for me, so hopefully I notice some changes soon or I probably will lose it.

After spending lots of money and wandering the city for hours, I headed down to the airport to retrieve my sister and she treated me to a late dinner at Bonefish to thank me for picking her up.  I hit the road back to VA around 6:30 last night, and after sitting in ridiculous amounts of traffic in MD, finally made it home around 10:30.  It was a long and infuriating drive.

Back to the grind today, with lots to do, but hey next week is Memorial Day weekend and I have a 4 day one as well as my best friends wedding! Let the countdown  begin! How were your weekends?

Exhaustion

So, I’ve learned my lesson.  Anytime I plan on making the trip home and there are going to be family functions to attend on a Sunday, take the following Monday off from work.  Driving back to Virginia from my aunt’s at 7 pm last night was not fun, not fun at all.  Especially since I encountered thunderstorms and slow moving traffic the entire way.  One of these days I’ll figure out the best time to make the drive, leaving work on Friday at 2 pm was no good, and leaving NJ at 7 was pretty shitty too.  Sigh.

My Easter weekend was a whirlwind of eating, drinking, and activity.  Champagne was popped the second I walked in the door Friday evening, and I put my last glass of wine down about an hour before hitting the road to come home.  I also couldn’t have picked a better time to finally retrieve my summer wardrobe to bring back to VA with me.

I’ll give you three guesses to figure out which day Darren is supposed to fly in.  Typical.  Anyway, I feel like a zombie today, and am just now getting my coffee, so instead of blabbering on for another 300 words about my weekend I’ll give you some photos, and captions.

someone must have told a good joke

somehow still drinking on Sat night with my sis

Easter Sunday at my Aunt's

I’m so happy that my boss is on vacation this week, because seriously, I’ll I’m going to try to do today is stay awake.  That is a tall order my friends.  I see another iced coffee in my future.  I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  Happy Monday?

Marathon Monday!

Last year was the first year that I really gave the Boston Marathon much thought, as running and I had just recently decided to give our relationship another go, but as with any new relationship I devoted my whole attention to it.  I read articles on Runner’s World for weeks about who to watch, and what to expect, and going in to marathon Monday, I was rooting for Ryan Hall and Kara Goucher.  Seeing as I have a full-time job, I thought watching the actual marathon would be somewhat difficult, but luckily Universal Sports was streaming live coverage all morning.  I sat at my desk for the entire thing, amazed at how so many people could run 26.2 miles faster than I could probably run one.  It gives me chills just thinking about, and 2 weeks before my first road race, Boston was exactly the motivation I needed to keep training and pumped.  Now, I may not have a race in two weeks this year, but I am still just as excited for Boston, and hopefully I will be able to watch the coverage again.  Also, I’ll be rooting for my favorite cynical anti-blogger, The Angry Runner, and hoping she kicks ass.  Good luck to everyone out there running Boston today!

Ok, back to recapping my weekend activities.  Are you like me and completely lazy with your blog reading on weekends?  Here’s what you missed:

Sunday morning, the bf and I woke up and went to my favorite little breakfast/brunch place.  It sits right on the Delaware River, has beautiful views and absolutely amazing food.

Yup, that’s the Delaware, doesn’t it look small for a major river?  No one ever believes that New Jersey is in fact, that close.

This was the view from our table.  The hardest thing about going to a brunch place for me is making the decision between breakfast and lunch foods.  Typically I order a Turkey Club sandwich, but yesterday I was really digging the omelette’s and went with it.

My omelet had spinach, sautéed  onion and green pepper, bacon, and American cheese.  Served with home fries and wheat toast.  This thing was gigantic, I didn’t even get through half of it and brought most of it home, which made for a lovely Monday morning breakfast a few minutes ago ;) .  The bf ordered everything on the menu.

Two blueberry pancakes, home fries, 2 pieces of bacon and sausage, scrambled eggs, and wheat toast.  He left 1 piece of sausage and the eggs, nice job babe, you make me proud :) .  After our breakfast feast, the options were either go home and lay on the couch with our pants unbuttoned, or do something active to make use of the pounds of carbs we’d just consumed.  Being active won, so we headed over to the driving range and par 3 course.

Babe in action, he kicked my butt, but I was having an off day.  There’s some fun video that I may try to upload later.

I would actually really love lessons so I could become an actual golfer, and my own clubs, with perhaps a pink bag, or purple.  Not that I’ve given my clubs and bag more thought than actual golf or anything, no nothing like that…  I did manage to par the 17th hole, and I was very proud of myself!

After golf there was some typical Sunday errand running with stops at The Home Depot (my god that place is a mad house on Sundays!), Dick’s (because they’re right next door to each other and I have a problem), and Pets Mart to pick up some prizes for little Pumpkin face.  She always wants to come outside with me, so I picked up a harness and long tie out thing so she can run around outside when I’m out there.  She doesn’t actually like her prizes yet, but I’m sure they’ll grow on her.

The bf and I relaxed and watched Sherlock Holmes before I had to take him to the train station.  Great movie, I really liked it a lot, and I’m thinking staring at Jude Law for two hours might have something to do with that.  Irregardless of his beautiful face and accent, the movie was funny and entertaining and I will give it my recommendation.  Not like that really means much as I would also recommend Cross Roads, give Britney a chance!

The bf headed back to NY last night, he has a job this week, hooray babe make that money!  He will be back on Friday though, and the two of us will be venturing down to DC for the weekend.  Ok I have rambled on for far long enough this Monday morning.  I hope everyone has a great day!

Conquering Broad Street, again

Look what I did this morning!

Officially registered for the Blue Cross Broad Street 10 mile run!  Anyone want to run with me?  I have no running partner this year :( .  It is the first Sunday of May, which gives me what, 11 weeks to train.  That is exactly what I had last year, the difference being this year I have been running consistently since February 2009.  Well if you don’t count the past two weeks I had to take off to rest my IT band.  Stupid knee.  I’m so excited, I estimated my finish time at 1 hour 30 minutes, so fingers crossed.  Back to the gym tonight for me (finally)!.  I’m still not allowed to run, but I figure I can at least hop on the elliptical for a good 45 minutes and get some major stretching of my tighter than hell IT band in.

Yesterday was a very relaxing President’s Day off with the bf.  When we finally left the apartment to go find some lunch, I think at this point it was 2 pm and I was verrrrry hungry, we couldn’t decide where to go and wandered around for years.  Ok maybe not years, but it sure felt like it.  I think I was on the verge of passing out, and getting crankier by the minute.  Waiting until 2 in the afternoon to eat for the first time all day is not a good idea for me.

Alex finallllly decided on this new place that recently opened called Rockwell’s Express. It was a really cool place, you create custom burgers, salads, wraps, chicken burgers, chicken sandwiches with whatever you want on them.  For the burgers and chicken burgers, all of the ingredients are mixed in with the meat, and then the patty is made.  It was pretty cool and delicious.  I ended up ordering a grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat bun, but after seeing Alex’s burger kind of wished I had gone with one of those.

Alex’s favorite part was the giant selection of fountain sodas and sauces and condiments.  Apparently that’s what he wants for his house someday.  Good luck with that babe.

After lunch we just sort of wandered around and ended up in Union Square, where we spent 3,000 hours looking at one pair of shoes in Shoe Mania.  The most surprising thing about that?  The shoes were not for me, nope it was all the bf.  He did not end up buying said shoes (hooray, I was not a fan) but by then I was too tired and annoyed with the Union Square crowds to even try to go into Trader Joe’s (sad) so we just went home.  Well we made one last stop at a Game Stop where guess what we bought.  A new Xbox game!  Haha shocking right?  It’s ok, I approve of this one, it’s a snowboarding game and relatively easy for video game idiots like me to play.

I got home around 8:30 last night, after a very crowded train ride, and surprise surprise it was snowing.  Sigh, how many days until Memorial Day?  102?  Getting back into the swing of things today has not been easy, in fact I am still struggling.  Notice how it’s 11 am and I am just getting around to posting?  Well at least LOST is on tonight, and tomorrow is Wednesday already!
