Bridal Festivities Begin

Phew, talk about a whirlwind of a weekend!  It was exhausting, but well worth it to be able to celebrate at Meghan’s bridal shower with her!  Our journey? Looked like this:

That’s a lot of driving, and a lot of hours spent in my car.  Thank god there was hardly any traffic, or I may have driven us off one of the 4 bridges we crossed each way.  The roommates and I finally made it out of Arlington around 8 pm on Friday and rolled into Long Beach around 1, where we were greeted by an excited friend with bottles of wine.  Thank god for wine and friends.

Unfortunately we were up bright and early the next morning so that all four of us could have enough time to beautify ourselves for the afternoons bridal shower.  Thanks to the two local members of the bridal party, the shower went off without a hitch. Well, unless you take into consideration the spilled glass of wine and centerpiece that tipped over about 5 minutes in.  After that everything went off without a hitch.

Sadly for me, my night pretty much ended as soon as we undecorated for the shower.  The second we got back to our friend Megan’s house I got so sick and threw up everywhere and passed out until the next morning.  I’m blaming it on something I ate at the shower, or just adding nausea to my already long list of ailments.  Which, if you’re keeping track probably also now include a sinus infection.  I am falling apart over here.  Sigh.

We made it home by 4:30 yesterday at which point I plopped myself on the couch until bedtime.  I’m so exhausted today, my face feels like it’s going to explode, and I want to sleep for the next four days.  Sadly, real life must go on, and I need to be a responsible adult.  I *think* Dar and I are putting an offer on another house today, so hopefully this one works out for us!  Happy Monday fools.

Beer is Good

Yesterday as I was sitting on Gmail, I noticed one of my friends updated their status to include a trip to Dogfish Head Alehouse later on.  I of  course immediately gchatted him, and invited myself along :) .  Delicious beers and food?  Sign me up!

I had plans to take the 5:30 spin class before meeting up, but of course when I got to the gym there was a sign on the door that the 5:30 class was cancelled.  Typical.  Instead I did 33 minutes on the elliptical, and a quick mile on the treadmill.  8:20, hollerr.  One of these days I want to do an actual mile test and see how quickly I can run one, I know it’s at least 7:57.  Then it was off to meet up with my friends

I’d informed them I was coming straight from the gym, but apparently they didn’t realize that meant literally straight from the gym, sweaty, stank workout clothes and all.  You’re welcome guys.  My first beer was of course the 90 min IPA, followed by its still delicious, but less ass kicking little sister, the 60 min IPA.  I also ate a salad, but that’s not really worth talking about.

I made it home just in time to watch Vampire Diaries (don’t judge me the boys on that show are super fine) while I packed for my weekend home.  Uh, that pretty much involved throwing one dress in a bag and a pair of shoes.  All my spring/summer clothes are at home and hopefully what I’ll be wearing all weekend.

In other news, I have found the perfect spot to search for a rich husband.  In order to avoid traffic the past two days, I’ve been taking an ass backwards way home, and during my drive I encountered some of the largest and most gorgeous houses I’ve ever seen in my life.  I almost drove off the road trying to look at one on Wednesday.  Rumor has it some NFL players live in the area.  I may have to “run out of gas” or “break down” sometime soon.  Don’t tell Darren.

Alright I’m off to my last day of workshop for the week, praise baby Jesus, and I am fully prepared with a giant container of iced coffee.  My drive home tonight starts at 3:30 pm, and here’s to hoping traffic cooperates and it doesn’t take me 5 hours like at Christmas.  Laterrrrr.

Uuuuh, yeah

So it would seem most of you are in agreement upon the sexiness of Brooks Laich, although as my sister pointed out, that picture does not do his baby blues justice.  Google him, it’s worth it.  Happy hour last night was a fun success, and there were about six of us who hung out until around 8:30.  Bar nachos were consumed for dinner, and $2 Blue Moons were drank.  I made it home in time to catch Modern Family and Cougar Town, um completely didn’t realize both were new episodes last night!  Both were hysterical as always.

I’m currently sitting here wondering if I really feel like walking all the way back out to my car to retrieve my water bottle.  I’m thirsty, but I could just use a cup all day.  Sigh, decisions decisions.  Maybe I’ll just wait a few hours until I go out to the post office, then I can accomplish both things at once.  Yes, I really am that lazy.

Tonight I have a date with the gym scheduled, and then possibly taco night with the roommates if they can wait until I get home from the gym to eat that is.  I promise to make it a quick workout and be home by 7!  Either way, I’m defrosting some ground beef so I will be eating tacos for dinner.  Surprisingly this week went by pretty quickly for being the first full week after the holidays.  I’m somewhat shocked that it’s Thursday already.  I’m thinking about asking to work from home tomorrow because it’s supposed to snow overnight/in the morning and I don’t feel like dealing with the commute.  We shall see though.

I’m really trying to think of something even remotely interesting to say today, and while I do have lots of thoughts I’d like to share, I can’t really write about them at the moment.  (How’s that for cryptic and mysterious, did I suck you in?) Instead I will just drive myself crazy with my own thoughts for a while.  Alright, well I give up for today, maybe I’ll be more interesting tomorrow.

Back to Work

Well I am back at work today, with maybe five other people.  In fact, there are so few people here that every entrance to the parking garages were closed and the people who are here have nowhere to park.  Way to go facilities, if you boot my car while it’s parked in “Visitor” I will throw a fit.

I made it back to VA by about 7:30 last night, after once again getting stuck in two hours worth of traffic.  My favorite part of the drive?  Entering MD and reading on the emergency sign, “Congestion, exits 94-64 expect major delays.”  It was awful, and the only reason for the congestion as far as I could tell, sun glare.  Not fun.  At all.  At least Pumpkin was very happy to see me when I walked in the door, she’s been following me around ever since.  I opened my shower curtain this morning and she was sitting on the carpet right in front of it.  She’s a weirdo, that cat.

Even though this is only my first day of work for the week, it is Wednesday which means happy hour day!  A lot of people are off this whole week, so I’d imagine the happy houring will begin even earlier than usual, haha.  I’m off again on Friday, so only two days of work to get through before another long weekend.  I think I can handle that.

Now, I’m going to get serious for a minute, and I debated writing about this, but I’ve been getting emails and questions asking, so here goes.  Yes, Alex and I are no longer together.  Long distance is hard, and it just wasn’t working for us anymore.  He is a great guy, and was an amazing boyfriend and I wish him the best and hope the two of us can be friends eventually.  And that’s all I’m going to say about that.

On a lighter note, does anyone have any fun plans for New Years?  Also check out this hilarious video of my friend Chris scaring the hell out of his nephew, haha.

Christmas Eve!

Happy Christmas Eve!  After the most horrible drive home in the history of the world yesterday, I finally made it back to Philly around 5 pm.  A drive that should have taken three hours, took five, I was not a happy camper.  I had about an hour to relax and freshen up before it was back out the door and in the car to head over to a family friends for dinner.

Lan and Beth were our neighbors in our old neighborhood when we first moved to PA from CT, so they have literally watched me and my sister grow up and we always try to get together when both of us are home.   We enjoyed appetizers, champagne, wine, a salad with homemade crab cakes, and a delicious sweet and sour chicken with rice.  No pictures, but everything was amazing.  After a dinner that lasted until about 11 pm, I came home and got to see an old friend.

Darren and I

Remember this series of posts?  Well after not seeing each other since 2006, The German (Darren) and I finally had a chance to hang out and catch up, and it didn’t even feel like four and a half years had passed. We stayed up talking until almost 4 am and finally called it a night when I could no longer keep my eyes open.  It was really nice to see each other and catch up, and I hope we can get together again before I head back down to VA, because if it took him three years to finally come back East again, who knows how long it could take next time.

After my late night, I had a glorious nights sleep and didn’t get out of bed until 11 am this morning!  Seriously unheard of for me lately, and now my sister and I are relaxing on the couch watching Lifetime :) .  I think mad Christmas Eve prep is about to begin soon though, as the family is expected to arrive around 6, so I’m not sure how much longer my relaxing morning will last.  Enjoy your Christmas Eve!
