Back in the Game

So, I went on a date last night. It wasn’t the first one I’ve been asked on, but it was the first time I decided to say yes. Probably because despite my drunken warnings about all my emotional baggage (met him when I was out Sunday night with Dani), he still sent me a text at 9 am the next morning asking to meet up for drinks.  Guys, it was my first date in 5 years. The last time I went on a date I was 22 and didn’t give a shit about anything. In fact, I showed up with my hair in a ponytail and a Yankees t-shirt on (it was September, there were playoff implications). However, we dated for two-years after that so I guess it worked for me?

Anyway, so I went, and it was good. Fun even. I laughed, made some jokes, he mostly got my sarcasm, and dry sense of humor.  After a five-year hiatus from the scene, this was my first outfit back. A step up from jean shorts and a Yankees t-shirt I suppose.

Yurman on the right wrist, Michael Kors on the left
Hair in desperate need of a highlight and trim

My long weekend leading up to yesterday was lots of fun as well.  Dani and I went out on Friday night and ended up drinking a lot more than I think we meant to. There were shots, and beers, and mojitos (ok I just gagged again) haha, and dancing.  Oh lord was there dancing.

before the shots

after. moving so fast we’re just a blur

Needless to say, I spent all of Saturday in bed. Whatever, there was an extra day to go out and recover. The aforementioned Sunday night, was much more low-key, and lacking in shots but still fun.  Now, it’s Wednesday already (which is awesome) and the NFL makes its glorious return tonight!  I’m hoping my fantasy team has a good showing this year, last year we sorta fell from grace.

So, happy Wednesday. Any dating tips for me? I’m seriously inexperienced in this matter.

Coping

Hey everyone, wanted to check in and let ya all know I’m still alive and kicking over here.  Slowly but surely, every day I start to feel a little better, and I officially haven’t cried since Thursday.  Three days is a major accomplishment when you take into consideration that for those two weeks I was crying every day.  We still have no resolution in terms of the mortgage, and getting my name off of it, so that is just hovering in a cloud of dread over me, but hey that’s life.

Instead of sitting in my house with a straw in a wine bottle, I’ve been out doing things to keep myself occupied.  On Thursday night, my lovely sister-wife Kacy was kind enough to meet me for happy hour at the new Buffalo Wild Wings that just opening in Ballston.

Fiver hours, and about 6 of those giant beers later, we called it a night.  I woke up on Friday morning feeling less than stellar, probably more to blame on the two glasses of wine I indulged in when I got home than the beers, but still made it through a terrible and busy work day.  I’m too old to party hard two nights in a row, so despite a post-work nap I couldn’t pull myself together for Friday night and instead spent it in my glasses on the couch watching the Opening Ceremonies.

I had some errands to run on Saturday, and actually put some effort into my appearance instead of running out in workout clothes with my hair in a ponytail.  Hey ya never know, right?

Please excuse my dirty mirror, I have since windexed it

My errands included a trip to the Apple store to see why my iPod won’t stay charged and a trip to Barnes and  Noble to see why my NOOK won’t turn on.  Come on electronics, get it together.  I am now the owner of a new (but exactly the same) iPod and a NOOK that is charged for now.  I then spent a few hours on the couch with an ice cold beer and the Olympics before cleaning up a bit to head out for a night on the town.

Saturday night was a lot of fun, despite a broken Tory Burch flip flop and blister the size of Montana.  It started out with dinner and drinks with my roommate, Adrienne, at the Green Turtle and ended at a co-workers birthday celebration at Union Jacks.  I did some dancing, a lot of drinking, and a lot of sarcastic mocking to people too drunk to realize it.  Also, it’s really funny when a 21 year-old hits on you, and then his eyes bug out of his head when you tell him you’re 27.  I thought he was literally going to fall over.  Kids.

Anyway, so that was my week/weekend.  Now to get through another week.  If people would stop getting engaged and posting it on Facebook that would be great.  I saw four engagement announcements over the weekend.  Four!  Cool it people, don’t you know I just got dumped?

It’s a Holiday Party!

So, four days until Christmas Eve!  Who’s ready?!  Surprisingly I pretty much am.  I only have one more present to wrap, and I am good to go!  I am very much looking forward to the short work week, rumor has it that we’ll be let out early on Thursday and then I am off to PA until the 27th.

This past weekend was a blast, my sister came down on Friday night and the two roommates, her and myself took it easy Friday in order to be well rested for Saturday nights party.  First on the agenda was dinner out and then over to a late showing of Black Swan.

Crazy good, I really loved it, and never have I felt more sane in my life than after leaving that movie theater.  It’s a really intense movie, one that definitely leaves you thinking, and sometimes uncomfortable and covering your eyes.  I really recommended it, and wouldn’t mind going to see it again.

Saturday started bright and early with a trip to the gym, where I got in 50 minutes of cardio alternating between the treadmill, elliptical, and some other cardio machine kind of like the elliptical, and some weighted lunges.  Then it was to the grocery store to pick up some things for the night’s party, I was making a buffalo chicken dip.  Before long, all the ladies were ready and it was time for people to arrive.

Thanks to everyone who came, I hope you all had as much fun as we did!  With a bed time of around 5 am, I was slow to start moving on Sunday morning.  When I finally did, I made it about as far as the big comfy chair in the living room where I stayed until hunger drove me to Moe’s around 7:00.  There was some excitement in the day when a log exploded in the fireplace and sent embers and pieces of wood flying across the living room landing on the couch and carpet.  The couch was only on fire for a minute before we were able to move and throw the burning wood back into the fireplace.  Way too much excitement if you ask me.

Alright everyone, enjoy your Monday!

I blame the Strep Throat

I apologize is this post isn’t up to my usual witty standards, but I currently feel like there are a million tiny ninjas in my throat stabbing me with little swords.  I woke up with the beginnings of a sore throat on Saturday, but since I was in our nations capital and visiting friends I decided to ignore it.  Sunday it was worse, and today I just wanted to cry, so I stayed home from work drinking smoothies and eating popsicles all day.  Thankfully I have a very nice boyfriend who took care of me and went and got me smoothies and popsicles :) .  Thanks babe.

Friday after work I picked up the boy from the train station and we began our journey to Washington DC.  As I expected we hit the worst of the traffic just trying to get through Philadelphia.  I think the bf may be signing me up for anger management after listening to some of the things that came out of my mouth, directed at traffic and other drivers.  I tend to curse like a trucker, oops.  We made it to Alex’s brothers apartment around 7:15, so I suppose 3 hours and 45 minutes isn’t tooo too bad, although I bet we could have made it in 3 if it wasn’t for traffic.  Does anyone else take the expected arrival time on the GPS and see it as time to beat?  I get so excited when I gain minutes, haha.

We met up with Alex’s brother and a few of the other guys who were in town for the bachelor party festivities, I apologized for crashing but assured them I would be MIA for the real party on Saturday night.  I don’t think I annoyed anyone too much, so hopefully they didn’t mind me being the only girl there.  We started out at a sports bar in Judiciary Square for some dinner and drinks, and Caps game watching.  All of my friends are huge Caps fans, and since they are not playing the Flyers (yet!) I was somewhat cheering for them.  Sadly they lost that game, but their series isn’t over yet.  After the game we moved onto Dupont Circle, I think, and a place called The Brickskellar.  Um, the beer menu was over ten pages long!  I was so intimidated.  Luckily the boys were more then willing to offer some suggestions and my first beer was a Schneider Weisse Heffe Weizen.

april 160It was delicious and wheaty.  It looks much darker in this picture than it actually was, but it was still a darker beer then I normally choose.  I liked it though.  Next, I went with a somewhat more boring beer, but still one of my favorites.

april 161Citrusy and wheaty all combined, a winning combination in my book!  Check out how intense this menu is.

That’s just one page!  Definitely a hit with the boys, and me too!  Luckily after two beers, I wasn’t the only one who was getting sleepy, and we all called it a night.

The boys were up bright and early on Saturday to head to brunch and then over to the Nationals game, so I packed up as much of my stuff as I could into the bf’s backpack and made my way to the Washington Monument to meet up with my two friends at their kickball game.  I didn’t want to drag my suitcase around all day, so I shoved a few outfits and a pair of shoes into the bag, and went off to conquer the Metro.  I have to say, in terms of public transportation the Washington DC Metro is much easier to navigate then the NYC Subway System.  I didn’t mess up once, and made it to all of my destinations!  It was a dreary and chilly day in DC, but I was excited to see my friends.

april 162They play all their games right on the grass between the Monument and the WWII Memorial.  After their games, we stopped off at Potbelly’s for sandwiches before heading to the bar that sponsors their team for a few beers.  I had a turkey and swiss sub on wheat bread, and it was delicious.

april 165We only stayed for a few beers at the bar, because we didn’t want to accidentally get too drunk to go out later that night, haha.  After a little regrouping, some coffee, and showers, the three of us were ready to head back into DC (they live in Arlington).  We were undecided about a place to eat dinner, but wanted it to be somewhat close to the bar we were going to, and when we got off of the Metro in Dupont, The Front Page was right across the street and sounded delightful.

That’s Dani and Adrienne at dinner.

april 167 Adrienne and myself.  After dinner we went over to The Mad Hatter where we proceeded to dance the night away.  I wish I had taken pictures in the bar, there were some cool Alice in Wonderland decorations, but I was too busy shaking my booty and trying not to fall off my 4 inch heels.  My calves got a work-out for sure on Saturday night.

Sunday I slept in until 11 am, which is unheard of for me these days, and then I was back to the Metro to navigate my way back to DC and to the bf.  We got on the road, and luckily there wasn’t nearly as much traffic on the way home.  It was a great weekend, and after spending it between DC and Arlington, I can honestly say I really like it down there, and wouldn’t mind living there someday.  So who knows, maybe I will.  Ok everyone that’s about as much as I can muster tonight, I’m going to finish my tea and head to bed.  Hopefully I am feeling better in the morning and can make it to work.  Goodnight ya’ll!
