A Random Tuesday Update

Over the weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the upcoming April wedding of one of my friends. Well, technically the bride and groom are both friends of mine but on Saturday we just celebrated the bride. The day started with a lovely bridal shower at the Fairfax Country Club and wrapped up with her bachelorette party in DC.

We rented a limo to take us to Carmine’s for one of the most delicious, and gigantic, Italian feasts ever and then out on the town for some drinks before heading home for a good old-fashioned sleepover.

It was so much fun that even Pumpkin was exhausted on Sunday, and she wasn’t even invited. I guess she could just feel how tired I was and was experiencing sympathy sleepiness.

It was a fun day, but as with all things fun it takes me longer to recover and get back into the swing of things the older I get. So I’m still struggling to get my life back together on this Tuesday morning. I’m also pretty much out of food and have $40 to my name until Thursday at midnight, so meals are about to get realllll interesting. Dear bonus season, are you there? It’s me, Kelly. This unfortunate financial circumstance is all my damn eyeballs fault, and why I drag a year supply of contacts out for two years. $417 for contacts and new lenses for my glasses?!?!?! Excuse you, but who do you think you are. Woof.

Since I’m no longer relying on nutrients from wine and other alcoholic beverages alone, and consuming actual food again I’ve had to actually start working out again. Whereas before I was just kind of pretending to do things in the gym, now I’m actually doing things, including getting my running mileage up. I spend a lot of time with a bright purple facing, longing for the days when a 6 mile run seemed easy.

I also do weights at least once a week, and a terrible Ab burner I saw on The Fitnessista along with a push-up pyramid (10,9,8,7… etc down to 1) every week. Holler for being able to do all 55 push-ups on my toes. This may have more to do with the desire to not have my arms look flabby and gross when I’m b-maiding it up later this year than the actual desire to be strong.

So yeah, that’s what’s happening in my life these days. OH! Can any of y’all recommend a camera that would be good for Ireland. So good for scenery, and gratuitous posts of my sister and I drinking? Low lighting, bright lighting, not super fancy (aka a point and shoot) and not terribly expensive (see reference to having no money). Gracias friends! As Quentin Tarantino said on Sunday night, peace out.

Bridal Festivities Begin

Phew, talk about a whirlwind of a weekend!  It was exhausting, but well worth it to be able to celebrate at Meghan’s bridal shower with her!  Our journey? Looked like this:

That’s a lot of driving, and a lot of hours spent in my car.  Thank god there was hardly any traffic, or I may have driven us off one of the 4 bridges we crossed each way.  The roommates and I finally made it out of Arlington around 8 pm on Friday and rolled into Long Beach around 1, where we were greeted by an excited friend with bottles of wine.  Thank god for wine and friends.

Unfortunately we were up bright and early the next morning so that all four of us could have enough time to beautify ourselves for the afternoons bridal shower.  Thanks to the two local members of the bridal party, the shower went off without a hitch. Well, unless you take into consideration the spilled glass of wine and centerpiece that tipped over about 5 minutes in.  After that everything went off without a hitch.

Sadly for me, my night pretty much ended as soon as we undecorated for the shower.  The second we got back to our friend Megan’s house I got so sick and threw up everywhere and passed out until the next morning.  I’m blaming it on something I ate at the shower, or just adding nausea to my already long list of ailments.  Which, if you’re keeping track probably also now include a sinus infection.  I am falling apart over here.  Sigh.

We made it home by 4:30 yesterday at which point I plopped myself on the couch until bedtime.  I’m so exhausted today, my face feels like it’s going to explode, and I want to sleep for the next four days.  Sadly, real life must go on, and I need to be a responsible adult.  I *think* Dar and I are putting an offer on another house today, so hopefully this one works out for us!  Happy Monday fools.

Obligatory Happy Friday Post

Heeeeyo, happy Friday! Thank god for the weekend because if your week has been anything like mine and my other lady friends, it’s been trying to kill you.  Remember how I got three types of medicine for my diseased lungs?  Well, the one I’m supposed to take during the day for my coughing made me feel like I’d had 17 too many vodka and sodas.  Full on room spinning dizziness and nausea.  I was walking around work with my arms out to my sides to keep my balance.  It. Was.  AWFUL.

I got home and laid down to see if it helped, but nope, I forgot that laying down only increases the room spinning effect and brings on the “omg I’m going to vom everywhere feeling”.  Needless to say I have not taken the medicine since, simply been sticking to my codeine laden cough medicine and inhaler at night.  Fun stuff friends, fun stuff.

After work tonight, the roommates and I are hopping in the car and road tripping up to Long Island for one of our very best friend’s bridal showers!  I’m driving, which means I’ll need an afternoon coffee to keep me awake and alert for the 5 hour drive.  I told the roommates if they didn’t want to listen to the country station on Pandora the whole way that they better come prepared with playlists.

Dar is going to look at six houses today, so let’s keep our fingers crossed he likes one enough for us to put an offer on.  He has strict instructions that if he does like something enough I require extensive photos and video footage of the house.  One of the downfalls of me not being able to go look with him.  If he doesn’t like anything very much, we’ve pretty much decided to put an offer on one I did see.  So hopefully things go well this weekend!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Weekend at Home

So, I’m still in PA today.  The weather here yesterday was nasty, and after hearing about the struggles my sister went through driving home from MD earlier in the day, I decided to make today a mental health day.  I’ll finally head back down to VA sometime this afternoon.  I’m not going to complain about the unplanned day off, because I managed to sleep until almost 10 am, and it was awesome.  The weekend tired me out.

My drive home on Friday afternoon was actually amazing, and it took me less than three hours, which is almost unheard of.  After arriving home, my sis and I headed over to Bed Bath and Beyond so I could pick up a shower gift, and then I met up with Liv at Starbuck’s.

Liv and I have been talking on Twitter for months now, and discovered we were from the same town, and even had mutual “real” friends in common.  It’s always fun meeting internet friends and real life, and finally putting a face/voice to a picture or blog.  It was nice to finally meet her in person, and we sat chatting for about an hour and a half before I had to say goodbye and go meet my mom for dinner.

My mom, sister, and I enjoyed an amazing dinner at La Stalla while sitting outside on the patio.  It was a gorgeous night, and I was almost chilly despite having long pants on.  It was awesome, I can’t remember the last time I sat outside without sweating profusely, a cool breeze was nice.  After dinner, the three of us met up with two of my sister’s other friends at the movies, where we saw The Help.  I liked it, but I still haven’t read the book, not sure if I will or not.

Saturday was full of pre-wedding celebrations for my friend Michelle.  First up was her bridal shower at a local restaurant.  We enjoyed lunch and wine while she flew through present opening.  Thank you for that Michelle.

After a quick outfit change, it was time to head over to Michelle’s sister’s house for her Penn State themed bachelorette party.  As Ashley and I were changing, all we kept saying was how this was the most comfortable bach party outfit ever, and that it was awesome.  It really was, I’m so glad we didn’t have to get dressed up and go out haha.

What happens at a bach party, stays at a bach party, but there were the typical games, dancing, drinking, and tons of food.  It was really fun, and nice that we could all just pass out at the house at the end of the night without worrying about getting home.  I stuck to beer for most of the night, and managed to escape without a massive hangover yesterday.  Score.  Other things I learned about myself on Saturday night?  I can still do a full split, and pirouette with the best of them.  I suppose that’s what happens when almost the entire bridal party were once ballerinas.

It’s still raining here, which blows, but at least it will be daytime, and a Monday so hopefully traffic won’t be so bad.  Catch ya later.

Acting like a dummy

A few pieces of advice to offer after this weekend.

  1. Drinking half a bottle of vodka is not a good ides
  2. Doing cartwheels after previously mentioned amounts of vodka is an even worse idea
  3. Boys do not want to listen to Glee’s version of Bohemian Rhapsody on repeat
  4. Just because you drank half a bottle of vodka, you are not automatically a better dancer

I’ll elaborate more in a bit, but first let me back up to Friday.  I went out for another 3 mile run after work, and was feeling really nervous leading up to it.  For some reason I was convinced my knee was going to start hurting, and that it was going to be a bust.  It was gorgeous on Friday afternoon, the humidity was down, and it was only about 75 degrees.  My 3 miles went amazingly!  I don’t remember the exact stats, but I finished in 27 something at about a 9:18 pace, which was faster than Tuesday’s.  I do remember that I negative split again, and my last mile was 9:04.  Hooray for improvements!

After my run, my sister and I went out for a few drinks at an outside bar near us.  I had two vodka and club sodas and we split an appetizer of Calamari.  The bf hates Calamari so I never get to order it when with him, luckily my sis loves it.  After our drinks we decided to pick up a pizza and head home for dinner and a movie.

Two slices of “Old Fashioned” pizza.  It was soooo good, I usually just get pizza from across the street, but I may actually make the drive for this pizza from now on.  Our movie choice was Shutter Island, and I really, really liked it.  I had heard mixed things about it, and how it was confusing and the ending didn’t make sense, but my sister and I both loved it.  I definitely recommend it.

Saturday morning I was going to get up and run, but my sister bailed on me and I didn’t feel like going alone so I tackled Yoga Meltdown again.  Still loving it, and I was absolutely dripping with sweat by the end.  The rest of my Saturday was spent at my friend Alexis’s bridal shower.  They had tons of great food, a fruit tray and veggie platter, sandwiches trays from Wegmans, and like 10 trays of homemade Italian cookies that her fiancé’s Aunt’s made.  I stayed away from that table and only grabbed a small chocolate chip cookie.

I love when I wear heels and my short friends don’t.  I look like even more of a giant.  Alexis is the teeny tiny blond in the middle.  As far as showers go, it couldn’t have been better.  No silly games to waste time, tons of beer and wine, and Alexis is one speedy present opener.  After the shower, Ashley, Michelle and I went back to Ashley’s house which is when all the vodka began to be consumed.  But first we played with some puppies.

And honestly after that, the rest of the night is a vodka induced blur.  I know we put on music and danced around on the porch, the boys ordered the fight and watched it in the basement, Michelle did some drunk ballet, and I did some drunk gymnastics, until I slipped on the wet grass twisted my ankle and hyper-extended my knee.  I’m a genius I tell ya.  It was a fun night that I severely paid for yesterday.  I was not feeling my best when I woke up, and one of the dogs was drinking my water, luckily I’ve been through enough hangovers to know that some ginger ale and greasy food will settle my stomach pretty promptly.

After we had all mostly recovered, we went and saw Sex and the City 2, finally!  I enjoyed it, and I agree with pretty much everyone else that the first one was better.  The clothes and shoes are still amazing though, and SATC will always have a soft spot in my heart.  The only thing getting me to work this morning, since I am still exhausted from my ridiculous Saturday night activities, was thinking that I only have to work three and a half days this week.  I have a half day on Thursday and am heading up to NYC for the Yankees/Phillies game, and then I am off on Friday.  Thank god!

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend, and didn’t act as much like an idiot as I did!
