Two Freakin’ Years

Well, I was a week late celebrating my one year blogging anniversary, so it only makes sense I am once again a week late in doing so.  Oops.  I actually realized last week that I missed it, but figured this would make a suitable post to schedule to go up while I was away.

I can’t believe I have somehow managed to ramble on about my boring life for two years now.  I find it even harder to believe that pretty much the same group of ladies has been coming back to comment for the past two years.  Thanks girls, I pretty much love all of you <3.

Let’s see… this year of blogging captured a lot of changes in my life.  I quit my job, moved to Virginia, started a new job, broke up with one boyfriend, got back together with another, entered my late 20s, and finally got to meet some of the awesome girls I’d been talking to for a whole year.

Amy and I got to hang out twice in Chicago, Kacy and I met up numerous times in Arlington and then she moved here!  Steph considers DC a second home and made many a trip down for dinners, drinks, and talks about everything and anything.  Also, despite the fact that we’ve never met, I have Jess’ number in my phone, so we should probably hang out ASAP.  Girls, seriously, thank you for the emails that are forever having me on the verge of snorting water out my nose in laughter.

In all seriousness though, minus those emails and friendships, lately blogging just hasn’t had the same appeal to me.  I started this blog two years ago as a place to exercise my love of writing, and to document the fun things I was doing.  I don’t really know what it is now.  Some place I come every morning and ramble on about nothing usually, and it’s boring even me.  Occasionally I use it as a form of therapy to write about the nutty stuff that goes on in my head, and I like it for that, but the daily workout recap.  Meh.  Oh don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere, I’ve become far too addicted to quit, just letting you all know that this past year has made me realize how dull I can be, haha.

Anyways, if being able to go back and read what I was doing a year ago and two years ago on this date has taught me anything, it’s that a whole lotta crap can change.  So who knows what the December 2012 3 year anniversary recap will say.  I guess, I look forward to finding out.  So happy birthday little blog of mine, thanks for letting me write about whatever the hell I wanted for the past two years.

Our Weekend of Celebrations

Thank you all for the well wishes on Friday!  Darren and I had an awesome long weekend celebrating our anniversary together, and it was over way too quickly.  His flight arrived right on time Thursday evening, and with only a slight delay in baggage claim (boyfriend is worse at overpacking than I am) we were on our way home for my delicious homemade lasagna.  The slow cooker sauce was a huge hit, and Dar ate about half of the lasagna by himself.  The rest of the night was spent sitting around on the couch enjoying some drinks and hanging out with my roommate Dani and her guy friend.

Friday morning I once again set out to prove my cooking skills and made Dar and myself a breakfast of eggs in a basket and bacon.  Nothing fancy, but enough sustenance to get Darren through a day of shopping withe me.  The two of us headed out to Tysons Corner to pick up some things he needs for our vacation in December and things I didn’t need, but definitely wanted.  J. Crew was our first stop where we both took advantage of the addition 30% off of sale items, him with some khaki pants and me with a pencil skirt, sweater, and long sleeve shirt.  Dar bought me the sweater because he was proud of me for realizing I couldn’t afford to buy everything I wanted, haha :) .

Friday night a group of 8 of us headed up to Poolesville, MD to experience Markoff’s Haunted Forest, and by the time we got there my nerves were shot.  I’m not a big fan of being scared or surprised, and the waiver we had to sign before going through was especially troubling.  I made it through without peeing my pants or crying, and may have only broken a small bone in Darren’s hand with my death grip.  I did get my head grabbed at one point, which wasn’t cool, but that was probably the worst of it.  A few of us headed out for some drinks once back in Arlington, and Dar and I called it a night around midnight and came home.

We spend the first part of Saturday lounging around until it was time to head to my football game around 2:30.  Dar is my #1 fan, and just like when he came to my kickball game and I was voted MVP for the day, I had a stealer football performance catching the ball for an extra point and batting down a pass on defense.  We celebrated our 54-6 win over the other team with post game drinks at The Front Page before heading home to get ready for our celebratory dinner.

We had dinner at one of my new favorite Arlington restaurants, American Tap Room, mostly because neither one of us felt like venturing too far away from home.  We started with the Crab and Spinach dip appetizer, amazing, followed by the Chilean Sea bass (him) and the slider trio (me).  The slider trio consisted of a pulled pork slider, jerk chicken slider, and cheddar cheese burger slider, all of which were amazing.  We ended dinner by splitting the cheesecake for dessert, also amazing.  After dinner we came home and watched Horrible Bosses, and I thoroughly enjoyed our date night.

We made the most of Darren’s last day here by venturing a little further West down 50 in search of a pumpkin patch.  We didn’t find one, but we did find a garden center where we picked up some pumpkins for carving.

Shortly after we finished carving our pumpkins it was time for Dar to pack up and for us to head to the airport :( .  His 6 pm flight to Milwaukee was right on time and he made it to security with about 20 minutes until boarding.  We said our goodbyes and then I made the lonely walk back to my car.  Luckily our next visit with each other is in 47 short days, and then we get to spend almost and entire month with one another.  All in all it was a fantastic weekend, and I miss my love already.  I think it’s safe to say I will be spooning with the teddy bear he sprayed with his cologne for quite some time.

10 Years

Darren’s visit this weekend is a pretty special one for us, not only because it’s been so long since the last one.  Ten years ago today, we made our relationship official for the first time.  Yes, we’ve broken up and dated (many) other people but it’s still a milestone all the same :) .  To celebrate we’re going out to a nice dinner tomorrow night, and we’re heading out to a Haunted Forest tonight.  Should be lots of fun.  So, in honor of our ten years together, enjoy some photos from them!

A Fantastic Anniversary Weekend

Hello and happy Monday morning.  I’m glad you all enjoyed the video I made for mine and Alex’s one year anniversary, it was a surprise to him also and he really liked it.  It’s time for a huge weekend recap post, so try to stick with me.  If you don’t, I’ll understand but we did some fun stuff and had some great food!

Friday night I arrived around 6:00 and hoofed it through the subway system in 4 inch wedges with a giant duffle bag.  That totally counts as a workout right?  I actually ended up at Alex’s apartment before he got home from work, so I hung out with his one roommate Brandon while I waited for him.  He had seen my chicken teryaki noodle stir-fry pics on the blog, and had really been wanting to try it so we made that for dinner on Friday night.  I hate cooking in other peoples kitchens, especially boys because they never have the random things that you need.  It still turned out great, and Alex loved it.  After dinner we went out to the boys favorite local dive bar, The Edge for a little birthday celebration for Brando.  We played some darts, and drank lots of beers.

The theme of the party was “white” obviously.  I ended up drinking a tad bit more than I meant too and woke up Saturday morning with a headache the size of New York, so uh no run happened.  Thankfully, Alex loves me a lot and went out and got some bagels for us, and I was able to pull myself together enough to venture outside to do some shopping.  First stop was lululemon in Union Square where I tried on a bunch of pants, I think I’ve decided on a pair of cropped ones but still making a final decision.  Then it was off to H&M where I absolutely cleaned up on some new fall essentials.  Haha, for what the one pair of pants in lululemon would have cost me I got a pair of underwear, two button down shirts, two tank tops, and a sweater.  I’m really loving all my purchases, H&M just might be my new favorite store.  I’m so lucky to have a boyfriend that likes shopping with me :) and who is also great at picking out stuff for me.

After shopping, we walked back to Stuyvesant Town to rest up a little before our big Anniversary dinner, oh and to exchange presents :) .  Alex did reallllly good and got me three new workout shirts, a new sports bra, and the Tiffany I love you ring that I had been hinting about wanting for oooh at least 6 months.

I plan on wearing it on my right hand, looks a little too much like a wedding band for me, but my fingers are a little swollen right now and my left ring finger is smaller.  From me, a few weeks ago Alex got the iPod Touch that came free with my MacBook and I supplemented it with a gift card for him to put towards a new computer which is all he said he wanted.  We had some pre-dinner cocktails at the apartment and then headed over to Chelsea for our 8 pm dinner reservations at The Park.  Dinner was amazing, delicious, and the restaurant was a romantic place to celebrate our anniversary.

I started off our celebratory dinner with a glass of champagne and Alex had a sparkling Mint Julep which sounds like a girly drink, but it was not.

They brought us some bread and olive oil to enjoy while we perused the menu.

For an appetizer, we decided on the crab cakes, which were sooo good.

Check out the view from our table, it was gorgeous.

And then for my main course, I was not adventurous at all and went with the turkey burger with American cheese, haha.  It was seriously one of the best turkey burgers ever, and Alex ordered a steak.  Can I just say that I love that both of our dinners came with french fries, haha.

After our meals (we both cleaned our plates) we were pretty full, but the cheesecake on the desert menu just sounded way to delicious to pass up so we decided to share it.

It was a wonderful anniversary meal, and I would love to go back to The Park again and sit in one of the many other rooms of the restaurant.  The Skyline Park literally started right across the street from the restaurant so we ventured up to it to walk around after dinner.  I had never seen it before, and it’s really cool.  After walking around the Meatpacking district for a while, we ended up at the Ganesvoort Hotel rooftop bar where we both had one drink, because they were a million dollars, and did some serious people watching.

After our drinks, we returned to the East Village and Alex’s apartment where we drank some more for free, watched some TV, and just spent some qt together.  It was a great night.

Yesterday was a gray and rainy day in NYC, and what better way to spend a rainy Sunday than just being lazy, which is exactly what we did.  We left the apartment to find food, and that’s it.  We agreed on an early dinner of the most delicious pizza ever.  Artichoke is located on 14th st between 1st and 2nd Ave and the line out the door is typically at least 10 people long.  They accept cash only and offer four different types of pizza, crab, Sicilian, margarita, and of course artichoke.  I’ve had the margarita and the artichoke before, and both are incredible.  Yesterday I decided to go with the pizza the place is named for.

Alex loves it too

Now, in no way is there anything remotely healthy about this slice of pizza, but it’s all about balance right?  So good and rich, I ate almost all of it before handing the last bit off to Alex to finish.

I was sad to leave and come home, but I’m headed back up to NYC on Thursday night because Alex and I fly out bright and early Friday morning for his brothers wedding in Iowa.  These next few weeks are absolutely crazy for me!  I hope everyone else had a fantastic weekend, I feel like I’m going to recover from this one just in time for the next one to start!

1 Year

One year ago today the bf and I started our relationship.  We had actually met in college Junior year, when I apparently used to distract him during one of our Media classes.  He sat behind me, and I liked to wear low rise jeans, still do.  I knew who he was and I think he knew who I was, but that was it.  Flash forward three years to a Phillies vs. Pirates game where we officially met for the first time.  I think he commented even then, that my thongs still hang out the back of my pants, haha. While the rest wasn’t exactly history from that point on, we eventually got our shit together and started dating a month and a half later after sharing our first kiss on a booze cruise around NYC.  Happy Anniversary babe, I love you.  We are out enjoying our day, so I put together a video of our first year together in photos.  Enjoy!
